A Farmer In Lebak Dies From Being Struck By Lightning, Found By Residents In The Cileutak Block Plantation Area

CIBEBER - A farmer from Cibeber, Lebak Regency, Banten Province, was reported to have died from being struck by lightning, Monday, May 16 at around 09.00 WIB.

"The farmer who died was identified as Rohanta bin Idis (52)," said Lebak Police Chief AKBP Wiwin Setiawan in Lebak, Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

The incident began when the victim on Sunday morning went to the rice fields in Neglasari Village, Cibeber District to cultivate his fields. However, at around 18.30 WIB, the victim had not yet returned home.

In fact, he said, usually at 18.30 WIB already at home. Because of this, the family reported the farmer's disappearance to the local village officials. Because, residents until the early hours of the search for victims, but not found.

Furthermore, he said, residents continued to search, until Monday at 09.00 WIB the victim was found dead in the Cileutak Block Plantation area, Neglasari Village.

The discovery of the victim was immediately evacuated to his residence, and at 11.00 WIB an examination was carried out by the Cibeber Health Center Medical Team with the result that burns were found on the victim's body caused by a lightning strike.

"We believe the victim was struck by lightning according to the results of the examination by the local health center medical officer," he said.

For this incident, police officers have examined a number of witnesses and statements from the medical team, with the conclusion that the victim died from a lightning strike which resulted in burns.

"I am sorry for the incident, we appeal to the public to be aware of rain accompanied by lightning, because it can cause fatalities," said Wiwin.
