JAKARTA - Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) was promulgated on Monday, May 9, through the State Gazette of 2022 Number 120.

DPR chairman Puan Maharani asked the government to immediately issue derivative regulations from the TPKS Law.

“There is no need to wait until the two-year deadline. The sooner derivative regulations are issued, the better. Because the handling of sexual violence cases will be more optimal,” said Puan in a written statement, Thursday, May 12.

According to Puan, the implementation of the TPKS Law does not only provide guarantees for handling cases of sexual violence. But it will also function in terms of prevention to protection and recovery for victims.

“We can now be more relieved because the TPKS Law has been officially enacted and is ready to be implemented. We hope that with the presence of the TPKS Law, the entire community, especially women, can be protected from the threat of sexual violence," said Puan.

Through the TPKS Law and its derivative regulations, said Puan, the state can guarantee the people's sense of security and protection from the threat of sexual violence.

"This legal umbrella will also provide justice for all victims," said Puan.

Puan explained, there will be 5 government regulations (PP) and 5 presidential regulations (perpres) that will support the implementation of the TPKS Law. Including, the existence of an Integrated Team and the Implementation of Integrated Services in handling cases of sexual violence.

"The increasingly rigid rules will improve the pattern of settlement of sexual violence cases, which so far are often deadlocked due to the absence of special rules," he said.

"We hope that with the existence of integrated services that are integrated between relevant stakeholders, victims of sexual violence can more easily get protection and assistance," continued Puan.

Therefore, the chairman of the PDIP DPP asked the government to intensively socialize the TPKS Law and its derivative regulations. The first step is in internal circles such as ministries/agencies, local governments, and law enforcement agencies.

“So that there is no longer any excuse for proclamation of forms of sexual violence, no matter how small. And if there is an act of sexual violence, law enforcement must be applied firmly," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for PMK also reminded the government to massively disseminate the TPKS Law and its derivative regulations to the public. Puan said, the government can work with civil society groups, especially those who have been focused on fighting for the TPKS Law.

“Socialize in education circles, including schools and universities where there are quite a few cases of sexual violence. Then in the private sector so that companies can better protect all their workers, and of course all other levels of society, "said Puan.
