BATURAJA - The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Baturaja District Court, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra has ordered the death penalty for Otori Efendi, a defendant in a serial murder case that occurred in 2021.

Public Prosecutor Armein Ramdani said in a trial at the Baturaja District Court that his party was demanding the defendant to be sentenced to death because his actions were inhumane.

The defendant killed five victims at once in his village in Bunglai Village, Kedaton Peninjauan Raya District, OKU Regency in a serial manner and carried out in front of the victims' children.

In the trial led by the presiding judge Hendri Agustian, the defendant was also uncooperative and did not admit his actions.

"These are some considerations, so we demand the death penalty in accordance with Articles 338 and 340 of the Criminal Code," said Armein as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 11.

"A follow-up trial with a verdict on the defendant will be held again in the next two weeks or May 24, 2022," he said.
