KONI Padang Corruption Case, Prosecutors Examine File Completeness

PADANG - The case file for alleged misappropriation of grant funds from the Padang Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) is being investigated by the prosecutor's team at the Padang District Attorney's Office, West Sumatra.

"Currently the research prosecutor is handling the KONI Padang case. The team is checking the completeness of the case files," said The Padang Attorney General's Special Crimes Section Head Therry Gutama in Padang, quoted from Antara, Wednesday 11 May.

According to him, the research prosecutor has 7 days since the file was received on May 9, 2022 to determine whether the files for the suspects are complete or not.

"If the file has been declared complete by the research prosecutor, the case process will immediately proceed with the submission of the suspect and evidence to the public prosecutor (Phase II)," he said.

On the other hand, continued Therry, if the file is incomplete, it will be handed back to the investigating prosecutor to be completed.

He said the three suspects in the corruption case that cost the state up to Rp3.1 billion were processed by the prosecutor in two separate files.

They are the Chairman of KONI for the 2018-2020 period with the initials AS in one file, then DV Deputy Chair of KONI, and Nz Deputy Treasurer of KONI 1 in the same file.

The suspects were charged with Articles 2, 3, and 9 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

From the results of the audit, Therry said, it was revealed that the alleged misappropriation of the Padang KONI grant funds in the 2018 to 2020 fiscal years had cost the state up to IDR 3.1 billion.

During the investigation, the Padang Attorney General's Office examined more than 60 witnesses, including the management of the Padang KONI, the management of the sports branch, and ASN at the Youth and Sports Service. The Padang Attorney General's Office has also confiscated more than 200 documents as evidence.

Therry emphasized that his party will immediately complete the process of the case so that it can immediately be transferred to the court for the purposes of the trial.
