JAKARTA - Property developer Emaar has told residents of Dubai Hills, United Arab Emirates, they could face fines for failing to control noisy pets.
In a notification, Emaar Community Management said pet owners found violating the rules would be sent a notification, followed by a fine.
Owners whose pets are found to be making excessive noise and disturbing other members of the community, will be fined 500 UAE dirhams or around Rp1,980,290
Other rules include cleaning pets, disposing of their litter in designated bins and tying dogs at all times.
Residents were also warned not to feed stray cats in the neighborhood, as per Dubai City guidelines. Those found to have done so may be referred to the authorities for further action.
One resident said it was unclear how the rules would be enforced, or who was responsible for judging when a dog barking was too loud.
The notice says: “While we enjoy a pet-friendly community, we would like to remind you to follow pet guidelines to promote healthy living experiences for all residents, reports The National News May 8.
“Please note that cases of non-compliance will be issued with a Violation Notice followed by a penalty of 500 UAE dirhams or around IDR 1,980,290 per sample
"Residents can call the Dubai Municipality Contact Center on 800 900 to report any incident involving pets within the community."
Last year, Emaar also sent a notification to residents in his community reminding them that owning exotic pets in Dubai is illegal.
The move came after reports were made of a big cat roaming around the Springs and Meadows community, which later turned into false alarms.
Emaar said under Dubai law "it is against the law for anyone to own and keep an exotic animal as a pet".
