71 Police Become Victims Of Riots Demonstration Rejecting Job Creation Law

JAKARTA - Dozens of police officers were injured while securing a demonstration against the Job Creation Law which ended in chaos. A number of police are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"There are 71 policemen who have been injured throughout Indonesia, currently there are still being treated," said Head of Public Relations of the Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono to reporters, Monday, October 12.

In addition, the rioting also affected facilities belonging to the Police, which were also damaged by rioters. They destroyed several police posts and police stations.

Dozens of Polri official vehicles were damaged. Pospol has also been the target of mass rampage.

"There were 17 cars damaged, trucks, motorbikes, 7 police stations, and the police post," said Argo.

The chaos in the middle of the demonstration against the ratification of the Job Creation Law left various damages. In fact, 23 members of the National Police were also victims of the riot.

"Yes, it is true that 23 Polri personnel were injured during yesterday's demonstration security activities," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Friday, October 9.

Of the dozens of police officers who were injured, one of them was the Tangerang City Police Chief Kombes Sugeng Hariyanto. He was hit by a new throw of rioters.

"Kapolres Tangerang City, who was thrown when he was driving away demonstrators who were going to carry out violent stone throwing activities," said Yusri.

In fact, one of the policewomen who took part in the guard also suffered a fracture in his hand. This policewoman must undergo intensive care at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta.

From police data, 19 Polri personnel who were previously treated have been allowed to return home. The rest are still undergoing intensive care.

As many as 5,918 people were secured in all provinces in Indonesia. However, only 169 were upgraded to investigation and 98 of them were detained.
