To South Korea, Megawati Will Receive The Title Of Honorary Professor

JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri flew to Senongnam, Seoul, South Korea today. There, Megawati will receive the title of honorary professor from the Seoul Institute of the Arts (SIA).

When she arrived in Seoul, Megawati was greeted by the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Gandi Sulistiyanto, the Deputy General of MOFA and the Indonesian Defense Attaché. The PDI-P General Chairperson arrived with the PDIP DPP General Treasurer Olly Dondokambey, and the PDI-P DPP Chair for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Fishermen Rokhmin Dahuri.

PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto explained that Megawati's first agenda was to attend the inauguration of the new South Korean president, Yoon Suk Yeol, at 10.30 local time.

"This invitation from the Republic of Korea is an honor. It is a special invitation by the President-elect to attend the inauguration," Hasto said in his statement, Sunday, May 8.

Then in the evening, Megawati will attend a dinner specially made by President Yoon. The next day, Megawati will again go to the South Korean Presidential Palace for a bilateral meeting with President Yoon.

After the meeting, Megawati will immediately go to the Seoul Institute of the Arts (SIA) Building. Because there, Megawati will attend the awarding ceremony for the title of honorary professor.

SIA is a renowned educational institution that has been around for more than 60 years. It gave birth to dozens of well-known and quality artists from Korea, including Kim Seon Ho, Son Ye Jin, to Kim Ha-neul. Or singer Wooyoung from Group 2PM, and Presenter Yoo Jae-Suk.

Hasto explained that SIA awarded the professor the title because he assessed Megawati's great contribution and humanitarian commitment to fighting for peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as her great concern for democracy, the environment and culture.

"Basically, Korea is one nation, two countries. Only because of ideological differences due to the cold war, then it was split into two countries, so the Korean reunification process must continue to be carried out by peaceful means and dialogue. Cultural diplomacy is an important approach that can be taken," he explained. Hasto.

It is known that the title of honorary professor from SIA will be Megawati's second. Previously, in June 2021, Megawati received the title of Honorary Professor from the Indonesian Defense University (IDU) in the Field of Strategic Leadership.
