PADANG - The Padang City Police, West Sumatra, have arrested eleven perpetrators related to allegations of illegal levies (extortion).

"Today we have arrested eleven people who practice illegal levies in separate locations," said Padang City Police Chief Kombes Imran Amir, quoted by Antara, Friday, May 6.

After being arrested, the perpetrators of extortion were immediately brought to the Padang Police Headquarters for further processing.

The perpetrators were caught by Intelligence and Security Unit (Intelkam) personnel at a number of points in Padang City, starting from the Pasar Raya Padang Fountain area.

At that location, the police arrested a perpetrator along with cash as evidence by illegally collecting parking modes.

Meanwhile, in front of the Plaza Andalas shopping center, the police arrested five perpetrators with two modes of operation.

"One perpetrator uses the mode of spraying perfume on passing vehicles, while the other three use the parking mode," he explained.

In the Jalan Permindo Pasar Raya Padang area, he continued, two perpetrators were arrested, while in the Jalan Patimura area there were three perpetrators.

Previously, Thursday (5/5), the Padang Police had also arrested 13 perpetrators suspected of committing extortion along the Padang Beach area. On Wednesday (4/5) as many as a dozen perpetrators.

Imran Amir emphasized that his party will wipe out the perpetrators of illegal levies, thuggery, burglary, or the like in this city.

"The personnel have been deployed to the field, both wearing uniforms and wearing civilian clothes. Therefore, we emphasize that no one commits extortion. If caught, strict action will be taken," he said.
