Bukittinggi City Government Again Allows Congregational Prayers In Wirabraja Canteen Field

JAKARTA - This year's Eid, the City Government (Pemkot) of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra has ensured that the Eid prayer in congregation at the Wirabraja Canteen Field, Bukittinggi, will be held again. This activity was held again after being stopped for the last two years.

"Eid al-Fitr prayers in fields including the Wirabraja Canteen Field can be held again, Alhamdulillah," said Deputy Mayor of Bukittinggi, Marfendi in Bukittinggi, Saturday, April 30.

According to him, this is in accordance with the direction of the central government which provides leeway for the resumption of citizen activities after being suspended since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Of course, the Muslim community in Bukittinggi City and its surroundings may attend congregational prayers in the Canteen Field later, the Islamic Holiday Committee (PHBI) has prepared the activity optimally," said Marfendi.

He said the Wirabraja Canteen Field was able to accommodate thousands of worshipers and PHBI had also prepared the Al Hanif Kodim Mosque as a backup. "God willing, the preacher for Eid al-Fitr will be Ustaz Jel Fatullah and Ustaz Isrizal Anwar as imam," he said.

Furthermore, Marfendi also appealed to the public to continue to comply with health protocols as part of efforts to maintain health.

Previously, for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021, the Government through the Governor of West Sumatra Mahyeldi issued Circular (SE) Number 08/Ed/GSB-2021 dated May 8, 2021, regulating the holding of Eid Prayers 1442 H/2021. In the SE, it is stated that they are asked to perform Eid prayers only at their respective homes.

Before the pandemic outbreak, the Eid prayer in congregation at the Bukittinggi Wirabraja Canteen was previously a routine agenda every year carried out by the Bukittinggi City Government. Finally, this activity was held in 2019 which was attended by thousands of worshipers from various regions.
