Police Determine 87 Suspects Rioting Demonstration Rejecting Job Creation Law, 7 People Detained

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya named 87 people as suspects in a rioting of demonstrations against the ratification of the Job Creation Law. Seven of them were detained.

"There are 87 who have been named as suspects. But only 7 have been detained," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Saturday, October 10.

Yusri explained that the seven suspects were detained because of the threat of criminal penalties from the alleged article of more than 5 years in prison. Meanwhile, the rest are not obliged to undergo detention.

"If the 7 threats are over 5 years, they will be detained. We are still investigating the remaining 80 but have become suspects," he said.

Based on the results of the investigation, the 7 suspects were suspected of having committed the crime of beatings. They beat and mistreated Polri personnel who were in charge of providing security.

"(Suspected) Article 170 of the Criminal Code he attacked officers. Yes (suspects) of the anarcho groups," he said.

"(Evidence) Many stones, wood, and others were caught red-handed," he continued.

Dozens of people were named as suspects based on the results of the investigation of thousands of rioters. So, that leaves 285 people who are suspected of committing criminal acts.

"Yesterday I told you that we are studying 285 again. Now there are only 87 people left," he said.

Previously reported that 1,192 rioters suspected of being members of the anarcho group had been arrested. The majority of them are students of the Mechanical Engineering School (STM).

Based on data collection, many of them come from outside Jakarta. They deliberately came to the capital to take part in demonstrations and caused chaos.

This is known based on a cellphone examination and information. This is because their cellphones were found inviting them to make trouble at student and labor demonstrations.

"Several groups came from several regions, such as Purwakarta, Karawang, Bogor, Banten. Those who came to Jakarta had the objective to riot," said Yusri.
