JAKARTA - General Manager of PLN's Main Distribution Unit for Greater Jakarta, Doddy B Pangaribuan, said electricity consumption in the business sector until March 2022 in Jakarta rose 8.7 percent compared to last year.

According to Doddy, this is a positive signal of economic revival marked by a thriving business in Jakarta. From January to March 2022, the business sector used 2,758 Giga Watt hour (GWh) of electricity and was the highest electricity consumption since the announcement of the COVID-19 Pandemic in March 2020.

According to Doddy, although the number of electricity customers in this business sector is only 6.08 percent of the total 4.9 million customers at PLN UID Jakarta Raya, the electricity consumption is 33.3 percent of Jakarta's total electricity consumption which reaches 8.2 TWh.

"Electricity consumption for this business has started to rise, it could be because many offices have started to implement Work From Office again, offline events have started to be held, hotel occupancy has increased, and activities in shopping centers have started to increase," said Doddy in Jakarta, Monday. April 25.

Doddy detailed that a significant increase in electricity consumption in Jakarta and its surroundings was in the social sector by 16.2 percent as of March compared to last year. Social sector consumers include schools, universities, or private educational institutions, houses of worship, social institutions, student dormitories, religious education centers (pesantren), local government-owned museums, hospitals, etc.

"The number of schools or campuses that have implemented full or limited face-to-face learning, we think is a factor in the increasing electricity consumption in the social sector, in addition, the community can also worship in houses of worship directly," explained Doddy. As for households, electricity consumption from the beginning of the year to March 2022 rose 4.39 percent from last year. PLN also recorded an increase in the number of household customers in Jakarta and its surroundings until March by 3.3% compared to last year (YoY). Now the total household customers of PLN UID Jakarta Raya are 4.5 million customers.

Overall, PLN UID Jakarta Raya recorded an increase in electricity consumption by 6.4 percent until March 2022 and the number of customers increased by 3.2 percent.
