Sidoarjo Police Seize 27.5 Kilograms Of Firecrackers

SIDOARJO - The Sidoarjo Police Team seized 27.5 kilograms of firecrackers ready to be distributed online from a suspect with the initials RM.

Sidoarjo Police Chief Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro said the disclosure of the trade in explosives from firecrackers stems from public reports. "The police are also moving quickly to disguise themselves as buyers," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 25.

According to him, these firecrackers were purchased by cash on delivery (COD) around Sidokare, Sidoarjo. The perpetrator then came to the location carrying an order of explosives for firecrackers and the police immediately arrested him.

"When the police were arrested, they searched the suspect and found 1 kilogram of explosive firecrackers on his motorbike," said Kombes Kusumo.

The police then carried out the development of the case to the suspect's boarding house which was located not far from the location of the arrest. Finally, evidence of various explosives was obtained from the suspect's business which has been running since 2021.

The evidence that was confiscated included 53 plastic packs of 0.5 kilograms each with a total of 27.5 kilograms of explosive firecrackers. Then, 5 kilograms of potassium, 15 kilograms of sulfur, 2.5 kilograms of aluminum powder in 3 bags of crackle, 37 pieces of firecracker wick.

"Officers also confiscated paper for making firecrackers, 1 weighing device, 1 filter, 1 plastic spoon, 1 bottle, IDR 3 million in cash as a result of the sale and an ATM card," said the police chief.

From the results of the police investigation, the suspect marketed through online store applications.

"Some are sent using a courier service, sometimes it is also done by COD," continued Kombes Kusumo.

The suspect was charged with Article 1 paragraph (1) of the Emergency Law no. 12 of 1951.
