JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, held a meeting with a number of women's groups from civil society networks and activists for sexual violence at the DPR/MPR building complex.

In the event, Puan was accompanied by Deputy Chairperson of Commission VIII DPR Diah Pitaloka, PDIP faction member Krisdayanti and DPD member Sylviana Murni. Also present were Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani.

Puan said this meeting was to absorb input from the implementation of the Sexual Violence Law (UU TPKS) which was recently passed by the DPR.

"We met friends from various elements who were very supportive and asked that the implementation of the TPKS Law could run as we all aspire to," said Puan in a written statement, Friday, April 22.

Puan assessed, it is necessary to oversee prevention and mitigation so that the TPKS Law is useful in protecting, safeguarding and preventing victims of violence against women and children in particular.

Ouan appreciated the support from all elements of the nation who had worked together to ratify the TPKS Law.

Currently, said Puan, the ball is already in the government. Where according to him, derivative regulations related to the TPKS Law must be completed immediately so that implementation in the field becomes stronger.

"Of course, I hope this spirit can also be implemented in other laws. So that input is always seen from not only inside but outside and later every law can be useful for the country," said Puan.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of Commission VIII of the DPR Diah Pitaloka admitted that she received many messages that women's groups wanted to meet the Chair of the DPR after the TPKS Law was passed.

"Want to say thank you. So I conveyed it to Ms. Puan and coincidentally Ms. Puan was very happy to welcome this meeting as well as to commemorate Kartini Day, the day of struggle for Indonesian women," said Diah.

Diah emphasized that the TPKS Law may be a gift on Kartini Day for women in all lines who are concerned about the civilization of the Indonesian nation.

“This is extraordinary for all women in the country, in villages to lobby at the DPR level to the government. Extraordinary and extraordinary hard work, we have a female DPR chairperson who knocks the hammer on her decision," said Diah.
