KKP Minister Edhy Prabowo: The Job Creation Law Is Eagerly Awaited By Fishermen And Maritime And Fisheries Entrepreneurs

JAKARTA - Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo welcomed the passing of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation. He said that this law would provide more benefits to fishing communities because there was certainty in business and permits.

"The ones who benefit the most are the fishing communities themselves," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, October 7.

Not only that, Edhy claims, the broomstick law that reaps the pros and cons is actually eagerly awaited by business actors in the marine and fisheries sector.

"I would like to highlight that this is actually what business actors in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries have been waiting for. For example, ship licensing," he said.

Furthermore, Edhy said, this was due to the difficulty in obtaining a ship permit. The long regulations also prevented investment in the fisheries and maritime sector over the past five years.

"So that our fishing industry from Sabang to Merauke dies. I have not calculated exactly, but my assumption is that more than Rp. 300 trillion that has invested in Indonesia does not work," he said.

The Ciptaker Law, said Edhy, improves a number of regulations related to licensing, the sustainability of the marine and fisheries industry, and the elimination of criminalization of fishermen. This regulation also provides benefits for entrepreneurs large to small, including fishing communities.

Previously, the criminalization of marine and fisheries industry business actors often occurred. One example is what happened to a shrimp farmer in Bengkulu who was jailed for two years because his farming business was considered illegal.

Therefore, he said, with this Job Creation Law, marine and fisheries industry players can run their business calmly without worrying about being criminalized.

"From the 21 regulations that can be put together, it is sufficient to give notification although it does not reduce the control of activities regarding environmental protection, for example Amdal (Environmental Impact Analysis). Including hazardous substances, they are all there," he said.

Not only that, according to Edhy, this broomstick law also cuts sectoral egos between ministries, even the egos of regional governments. One of them, about marine zoning.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) must first communicate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to issue permits.
