Masks Become The Most Used 2020 Pilkada Campaign Material

JAKARTA - Member of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Mochammad Afifuddin, said that the most number of candidate pairs in the 2020 Pilkada distributed masks as campaign materials.

"It has been recorded that from September 26 to October 6, the most campaign materials were masks, which are in 159 districts / cities out of a total of 270 districts / cities," Afif told reporters, Tuesday, October 6.

After masks, the distribution of stickers was in second place for campaign materials in 121 districts / cities, then clothes in 49 districts / cities, hand sanitizers in 21 districts / cities.

In addition, there was a distribution of head covering campaign materials in 19 districts / cities, eating / drinking utensils in 10 districts / cities, gloves in 5 districts / cities, and face shields in 5 districts / cities.

Afif appreciated the pairs of candidates and the campaign team who distributed personal protective equipment such as masks, hand sanitizers, and face shields as campaign materials. Because, this helps reduce the spread of COVID-19.

However, Afif regretted the giving of stickers. It is feared that the distribution of stickers also has the potential for violations of health protocols.

"This is because the provision of campaign materials allows people to meet interfaces and touch hands," he said.

Furthermore, in installing campaign props, this method was carried out in 178 districts / cities or as much as 66 percent of all regions that held the 2020 Pilkada Simultaneously.

"Meanwhile, in 92 districts / cities or 34 percent, Bawaslu did not find campaign props in the first 10 days of the campaign stage," said Afif.

As for the campaign props that Bawaslu found, 167 units of billboards, 159 units of banners, and 50 units of banners.

"Bawaslu analyzed, billboards and banners were mostly installed because it was the smallest APK that had the potential to be damaged," concluded Afif.
