DPR Claims Number Of Ukrainian Marines Surrendering In Mariupol Increases To 1,350 Personnel, Russia: Successful Attack With Militia

JAKARTA - The Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) claims that the number of Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered in Mariupol has increased, with the Russian Ministry of Defense calling it the result of a successful attack by Moscow's armed forces and DPR militia.

The number of Ukrainian Marines who surrendered to Russia and DPR soldiers in Mariupol has reached 1,350, the DPR's Territorial Defense Headquarters reported Thursday.

"Our soldiers continue to capture militants from the 36th Marine Brigade of Ukraine in Mariupol. By the evening of April 13, 1,350 Ukrainian Marines had surrendered," the agency said on its Telegram channel, TASS reported April 14.

Yesterday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said the surrender of a thousand Ukrainian marines in Mariupol was the result of a successful attack by the Russian armed forces and the DPR militia.

He said, among the 36th Marine Brigade personnel who surrendered, there were 162 officers.

As previously reported, Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov said more than 1,000 Ukrainian marines had surrendered in the besieged port city of Mariupol, urging the remaining troops hiding in the Azovstal steel mill to surrender.

"In Azovstal currently there are about 200 injured people who are unable to receive any medical assistance. For them and others, it would be better to end this useless resistance and go home to their families," Kadyrov said in his post. Reuters.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously stated that the number of Ukrainian marines who surrendered in Mariupol yesterday was 1,026 personnel. In addition, Russia said 151 injured Ukrainian soldiers were treated on the spot and taken to the Mariupol city hospital.
