MADIUN - The Trade Office of Madiun City, East Java asked store managers to temporarily withdraw the sale of Kinder Joy brand chocolate eggs from the market because they were suspected of being contaminated with Salmonella bacteria according to the decision of the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM).
Madiun City Trade Office Young Expert Trade Analyst, Tri Prasetyaningrum, said that the request for the withdrawal of children's snacks was carried out by monitoring modern shops in the Madiun City area.
"As a result, there are still many modern shops displaying these products in storefronts for sale. We are conducting socialization so that they are temporarily withdrawn because based on the BPOM decision, the product is suspected to be contaminated with harmful bacteria," said Tri Prasetyaningrum, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 12.
According to him, the recall follows the issuance of a public warning by the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) on 2 April 2022 which found a link with Salmonella outbreaks in these products in a number of countries.
Based on BPOM's information, the temporary withdrawal was carried out until it was confirmed that the product did not contain Salmonella bacterial contamination.
"From monitoring the team in the field, there are still mini markets that provide Kinderjoy products in the storefront. For that, we ask that they be withdrawn immediately until a decision is made from the results of tests conducted by BPOM," he said.
The withdrawal applies to all Kinder products. In addition to Kinder Joy, a temporary recall was also made on Kinder Bueno products as an anticipatory measure.
Tri revealed the results of coordination with BPOM Surabaya that Kinder Joy products circulating in the Indonesian market were produced by Ferrero India PVP, LTD. Even so, laboratory tests are still carried out to ensure product safety.
Prior to Indonesia, Kinder chocolate egg products had been withdrawn from circulation in a number of countries due to concerns that they were contaminated with salmonella bacteria.
A number of those countries are Belgium, England, Ireland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, United States (US), Spain, and Singapore. The countries with possible confirmed cases of salmonella are France, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.
"For now, we emphasize to all stores to withdraw Kinder circulation until there is further information from BPOM," said Tri.
