Mayor Haryadi: Yogyakarta Is Safe, No Need To Worry About Visiting

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Mayor Haryadi Suyuti ensured that the city was in a safe condition because street crimes or "klitih" which adorned almost 25 percent of the news in various mass media in early April 2022 had been handled optimally.

“Yogyakarta remains safe. There is no need to worry about coming to visit Yogyakarta," said Haryadi after meeting with the police, TNI and community leaders in Yogyakarta, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, April 12.

According to him, the case of a street crime that occurred in early April 2022 and claimed one victim has been handled by the police. Five of the perpetrators have been arrested and are currently undergoing legal proceedings.

He ensured that the street crimes that occurred were never familiar with the term injuring the victim randomly because it was certain that there was a cause for the actions taken by the perpetrators.

“There is no such thing as a random victim. There may be victims of misdirection. But what is certain is that there are always reasons and causes for these street crimes. Usually caused by friction between groups," he said.

Therefore, he continued, the street crimes that occurred were categorized as inter-group brawls.

From the meeting, it was agreed to carry out patrols from various elements, such as the Yogyakarta City Satpol PP, TNI, police, Youth Organizations, and community or youth organizations.

He reminded the public to immediately contact the security forces if they suspect the potential for street crime and not to take the law into their own hands. "Still have to remember that our country is a state of law," he said.

The Yogyakarta City Government already has a Family Resilience Regulation which regulates the role of the family in educating children. "One of them is making sure the child is at home before 22.00 WIB," said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi.

Meanwhile, Dirbinmas Polda DIY Kombes Pol Ruminio Ardano said that to break the chain of street crime, joint synergy was needed.

"Guidance within the family, in the neighborhood, and in schools is very important because it is an area that must be monitored to narrow the steps for children to commit crimes," he said.
