DPR Leadership Promises To Forward 18 Student Demands To Jokowi

JAKARTA - Three DPR leaders met with a mass protesting in front of the DPR building, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta.

There are Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus, and Rachmat Gobel. The three got into the command car accompanied by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, at around 15.15 WIB or before the riot occurred.

"Regarding the student's request, the most important thing is not to postpone the election or extend the president or president for three terms," said Dasco in a command car while meeting the crowd in front of the DPR building, Monday, April 11.

The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party emphasized that the DPR and the government have agreed to immediately carry out the 2024 election stages.

Moreover, he said, the KPU commissioners for the 2022-2027 period will be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tomorrow, Tuesday, April 12.

"The DPR and the government have agreed to carry out the stages of the election, running as it should. The President, on Tuesday, will inaugurate the new KPU and will speed up the election process," said Dasco.

Dasco stated that the other demands submitted by the students would be submitted to the government as soon as possible by the House of Representatives.

"Regarding other demands, we will convey to the government as soon as possible, after this aspiration has been conveyed, they can return to their respective homes," he said.

He also emphasized that the DPR is committed to reducing the price of basic commodities so that they are no longer high.

"The DPR RI is committed to monitoring prices that do not rise ahead of Eid," said Dasco.

Previously, the Student Action Coordinator demanded 4 things to the leadership of the DPR and at the same time submitted 18 demands for BEM SI to be submitted to President Jokowi.

First, urging and demanding people's representatives to listen and convey the aspirations of the people, not the aspirations of the party.

Second, urging and demanding people's representatives to pick up the people's aspirations as well as mass actions that have been carried out from various regions from March 28, 2022 to April 11, 2022.

Third, urge and demand that the people's representatives do not betray the state constitution by making amendments, firmly rejecting the postponement of the 2024 election or a three-term term.

"And fourth, urging and demanding people's representatives to submit a study accompanied by 18 student demands to the president which have not been answered so far," said the coordinator of the mass action.

The 18 demands of BEM SI to President Joko Widodo consist of:

6 demands for action on March 28, 2022:

1. Students demanded that President Joko Widodo be firm in refusing and asking questions about the postponement of the 2024 election or a three-term term, because it clearly betrayed the constitution.

2. Students urge President Jokowi to postpone and review the IKN Law, including problematic articles, as well as the impacts from environmental, legal, socio-ecological and disaster aspects.

3. Students mentioned about basic ingredients and the scarcity of cooking oil. President Jokowi to be able to stabilize prices and the availability of basic commodities in the community.

4. Students asked President Jokowi to thoroughly investigate the cooking oil mafia and evaluate the performance of the relevant ministers.

5. Students also demand the resolution of agrarian conflicts.

6. Students ask the president and vice president to be fully committed to completing their campaign promises for the remainder of their term of office.

12 demands for action on October 21, 2021:

1. Demand and urge the government to issue a Government Regulation

Substitute for Law to cancel Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation.

2. Demand and urge the government to improve and increase Indonesia's economic growth which is still relatively low.

3. Demand and urge the government to develop natural resources (SDA) and human resources (HR) in the country, without making foreign debt a source of state development.

4. Realize civil liberties as widely as possible in accordance with the constitutional mandate and guarantee the security of everyone on the right to opinion and in expressing opinions as well as present evaluations and reforms within the National Police Institution

5. Realize the supremacy of law and human rights that is just, non-selective and resolves past human rights.

6. Dismiss Firli Bahuri as Chair of the KPK, Cancel TWK, Present Perppu on KPK Law no. 19 of 2019 and Restore the dignity of the KPK as the realization of Jokowi's promises in the corruption eradication agenda.

7. Demanding the government to provide first aid affirmations for teachers aged over 35 years and serving more than 10 years to prioritize graduation and directly appointing honorary teachers aged over 50 years.

8. Demanding the government to immediately improve the quality of education, both in terms of improving the quality of Indonesian teachers and the distribution of facilities and infrastructure to support education throughout Indonesia.

9. Demand the government to restore the independence of the National Standards Body.

10. Urge President Jokowi to immediately issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law to cancel Law no. 3 of 2020 concerning MINERAL.

11. Urge the government to immediately meet the energy mix target and immediately accelerate the transition of dirty energy to new and renewable energy.

12. Affirmation of the pornography law as a legal regulation to tackle pornographic content that has an impact on rampant sexual harassment.
