When The DPR Leader Gives Information After Meeting The Demonstrators, Stones Start Flying, Tear Gas In Action

JAKARTA - The April 11 demonstration in front of the DPR Building, which was initially peaceful, suddenly turned violent. Flying stones and tear gas continued to be fired by the police.

Initially, as we previously reported, the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) was received by the leadership of the DPR during a demonstration, Monday, April 11.

Students urged and demanded people's representatives to listen and convey the aspirations of the people, not the aspirations of the party. They were met by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Lodewijk F. Paulus, and Rahmat Gobel. The National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo was also present.

The masses urged and demanded people's representatives to pick up the aspirations of the people as mass actions had been carried out from various regions from March 28, 2022 to April 11, 2022.

The masses also demanded people's representatives not to betray the state constitution by making amendments, firmly rejecting the postponement of the 2024 election or a three-term term.

After meeting the demonstrators, the DPR leaders returned to the parliament complex. They walked from the pedestrian-only door. They also still had time to give press statements to journalists.

This is when there started throwing stones at each other between demonstrators. It is not clear from which side. Some of the stones have also entered the DPR complex.

In the end, what happened was that the protesters were throwing things at each other.

When the situation gets hotter, it's the water cannon's turn to act. This car immediately sprayed at the demonstrators. The police also continued to shoot tear gas at the protesters so they could disperse.

The demonstrators immediately scrambled to run in all directions.
