SEMARANG - As many as 11 teenagers in Semarang City, Central Java, were arrested by the police when they were involved in a brawl using a sarong as a weapon on Friday before dawn.

Head of Criminal Investigation at the Semarang Polrestabes AKBP Donny Lumbantoruan said that the arrests of dozens of teenagers from two different groups originated from community reports.

"Officers who are on patrol are following up on reports of teenagers having a brawl wearing a sarong at the Jalan Supriadi intersection," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, April 8 evening.

He explained that the perpetrators from the Palebon and Sendangguwo groups used a sarong tied at the end as a weapon.

The brawl itself began when one group uploaded a photo on social media which was then challenged to a brawl by another group.

After being secured, the teenagers were recorded at the Pedurungan Police Headquarters, Semarang City, before finally the parents of each child were asked to come to pick them up.

According to Donny, the eleven teenagers will not proceed to further legal proceedings and further guidance will be handed over to their respective parents.

He emphasized that the prosecution of dozens of teenagers was a firm commitment by the Semarang Police to the various types of violence that occurred.

He appealed to parents to supervise and direct their children so as not to wander around at dawn or after the tarawih prayer.
