MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution admitted that his party has collaborated with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to build a sea wall in the coastal area of Belawan in 2022.

"We are building a sea wall in Belawan," said Bobby Nasution in Medan, Thursday, April 7.

Handling tidal flooding in the Medan Belawan sub-district, he continued, was his promise which the Medan City Government is currently working on in collaboration with the PUPR Ministry.

The construction of tidal or tidal flood control infrastructure will be realized by the PUPR Ministry through the Sumatra II River Basin Center, including the handling of Medan City floods this year.

"The tidal flood in Belawan is one of our concerns to protect coastal areas and prevent tidal flooding in coastal areas," he stressed.

The mayor said the Medan City Government was currently coordinating with the North Sumatra Provincial Government and the PUPR Ministry to harmonize the program.

"It takes time to align the program so that it goes well. So, we ask for support and prayers from the community. God willing, we will soon build the sea wall," said Bobby Nasution.

In mid-March this year, the Sumatra II River Basin Center held a coordination meeting with the Medan City Public Works Agency to synchronize the design of the Belawan tidal flood control.

From the meeting, it was revealed that the PUPR Ministry has a design concept for the Belawan tidal flood control by prioritizing handling the area, and not buildings on water.

"In addition, the arrangement of regional water during local rain is also designed by arranging the main drainage system, as a drainage channel equipped with valve doors," said Bobby Nasution.
