PEKALONGAN - Pekalongan City Government has tightened control over the circulation of livestock meat in a number of traditional markets and modern shops after the sale of rotten meat was discovered.
The Head of Livestock and Animal Health at the Pekalongan City Agriculture and Food Service, Ilena Palupi, said that her party had dispatched a surveillance team to guide traders not to sell livestock meat that endangers public health.
"During the fasting month, the trend of consumer demand for meat is relatively high, so there needs to be guidance on traders and efforts to prevent deviations from the circulation of livestock meat that endanger the community," he said.
It was stated that a number of foodstuffs of animal origin that were monitored included beef, goat, and chicken which were sold by traders in traditional markets and modern shops.
Ilena Palupi said that monitoring the distribution of food products of animal origin will be carried out continuously until Lebaran 2022.
As for the results of surveillance at the Grogolan Market on Wednesday, April 6, he said, it was known that there were two stalls selling meat that were not fit for consumption or were in a rotten condition so they were immediately removed for disposal.
"There are two stalls selling food of animal origin in a slightly decomposed condition so we have removed them. However, for the findings of liver fluke parasites, we have not found any," he said.
Grogolan Market meat trader Ani said public demand for meat, especially beef, tends to rise.
"During the fasting month, the demand for beef is relatively attractive to the public, so the price also increases. Now the price of beef is 120 thousand per kilogram, up from the previous Rp. 110 thousand per kilogram," he said.
