Munarman's 3 Year Sentence Is Low Not Comparable To The Series Of Terrorism Cases, Muannas Asks Prosecutors To File An Appeal

JAKARTA - The Executive Director of the Legal Mafia Eradication Committee (KPMH), Muannas Alaidid, has spoken following the three-year sentence handed down by the panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court against Munarman.

According to him, the verdict is too low so the prosecutor must appeal.

"The prosecutor must appeal too low because the impact of the pledge has been proven to have resulted in fatalities, both in the tragedy that occurred in the Makassar bombings and the Philippines," explained Muannas as quoted from his Twitter tweet, @muannas_alaidid, Wednesday, April 6.

It is known that this decision is far lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) against the former General Secretary of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), which is eight years in prison.

According to Muannas, even though it was proven that Munarman was involved in terrorism, the three-year verdict was proof that the panel of judges was inconsistent in their considerations.

"Although it is proven that the 3rd decision shows the panel is inconsistent in its considerations because the lowest threat is taken," he explained.

Minarman's three-year sentence is in accordance with Article 13 Juncto Article 7 which has been stipulated as Law Number 15 of 2003 concerning Perppu Number 1 of 2002 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism into Law Juncto of Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning amendments to Law 15 of 2003 concerning the stipulation of Perppu Number 1 of 2002 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.

In the law it is stated, "Everyone who intentionally provides assistance or facilities to perpetrators of criminal acts of terrorism by:

a. to give or lend money or goods or other assets to perpetrators of criminal acts of terrorism;

b. hiding the perpetrators of criminal acts of terrorism; or

c. hide information about criminal acts of terrorism,

Sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum of 3 (three) years and a maximum of 15 (fifteen) years.
