Candidate For Mayor Of Bontang Adi Darma Died After Positive For COVID-19

JAKARTA - Candidate for Mayor of Bontang in the 2020 Pilkada, Adi Darma passed away on Thursday, October 1. Adi Darma passed away after several days of treatment as a positive patient for COVID-19 at the Taman Husada Bontang Regional Hospital.

Director of Taman Husada Bontang Regional Hospital, I Gusti Made Suardika, confirmed the news of Adi Darma's death. "Yes, Pak Adi Darma passed away at 11:40 a.m. due to being infected with the corona virus," he told reporters as quoted by Antara, Thursday, October 1.

Adi Darma was known to have suffered from illness on September 23, 2020, so he could not attend the Pilkada stage of taking the serial number at the Bontang City KPU.

At that time Adi Darma's pair, Basri Rase, was present alone in taking numbers and getting serial number 1 in the 2020 Bontang Pilkada from two pairs of competing candidates.

The Adi Darma-Basri Rase pair ran in the Bontang Pilkada through the political party channel and were promoted by the PDIP and PKB with a total of 5 seats in the local DPRD.

Unfortunately Doctor Gusti has not been able to reveal the congenital disease of the former Mayor of Bontang for the 2011-2016 period. "Later there will be an official statement at the hospital," said Gusti.

Previously, the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 in Bontang City released the results of Adi Darma's swab test which was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Thursday (24/9). After that Adi Darma was treated at the Taman Husada Hospital, Bontang.

The death of Adi Darma adds to the row of Mayor Candidates who will compete in the 2020 Pilkada in the East Kalimantan region who have died due to COVID-19.

Previously, the candidate for Regent of Berau, Muharram, also died on September 22, 2020 due to COVID-19.
