Ministry Of Social Affairs Affirms The Nearest Office Must Quickly Respond To Rape Victims With Disabilities

BANDUNG - Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) Harry Hikmat emphasized that the center must respond quickly to persons with disabilities who are victims of rape. Especially the closest hall to the crime scene (TKP) or the victim's residence.

Harry conveyed this regarding the rape case that afflicted the disabled in Bandung, West Java on Saturday, March 26.

"For the case response, it is the nearest office that must respond," said Harry in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 4.

At the National Coordination Meeting for the Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Harry said that each center needed to conduct an assessment of the condition of children with disabilities who were affected by the rape incident, as was the case with the Wyata Guna Social Rehabilitation Center for People with Sensory Disabilities (BRSPDSN), Bandung.

If necessary, halls with hospitals or universities that have psychologists, can also be deployed to help restore confidence and strengthen the victim's mentality when dealing with the law.

“For example, in court he has to give witnesses as victims, this is not easy either. This must also be followed by assistance who can sign language because when he explains using sign language he must be accompanied by someone who understands, "he said.

Assistance for victims while facing court, he said, is one of the efforts to accommodate persons with disabilities as well as mediation for victims.

Harry revealed that the Ministry of Social Affairs was willing to provide hypnotherapy to victims of the rape incident.

On that occasion, he also criticized the rape and sexual violence that occurred to a woman with a disability in Bandung. "We strongly condemn and respond to such cases according to the system implemented," he said.
