Promise Of Brawl Via WhatsApp Ahead Of Sahur, 3 Teenagers Successfully Arrested By Police With Barbuk Sajam

SEMARANG - Police have arrested three teenagers in the city of Semarang, Central Java on suspicion of trying to get into a brawl before dawn.

Head of Criminal Investigation at the Semarang Polrestabes AKBP Donny Lumbantoruan said his party had secured the three teenagers along with evidence (barbuk) with sharp weapons.

Apart from the three teenagers, the police are still hunting for about 10 other perpetrators who are still minors who are suspected to be part of a group.

He explained that the arrest of the three perpetrators after the video of the violent acts of the perpetrators went viral on social media.

The perpetrators, who were residents of Tambak Rejo, Semarang City, gathered after receiving information about a brawl with other groups via WhatsApp messages.

"They use social media to challenge each other," he said in Semarang, Antara, Tuesday, April 4.

From the CCTV footage, he continued, the perpetrators were caught trying to slash the motorcyclist using a sharp weapon.

"Fortunately there were no casualties in the incident," he said.

In addition to the group that was going to fight, the police also arrested a number of teenagers in Kuningan, Semarang City, who were involved in a sarong brawl after Tarawih prayers.

"There are nine teenagers who have been arrested. They use sarongs as weapons to attack each other," he said.

The two groups of teenagers who are indicated to have committed violence, he said, were not legally processed. The perpetrators are then returned to their parents to be fostered.
