Jakarta Is Surrounded By Traffic Jams, Police Say An 18 Percent Increase In The Number Of Vehicles

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya noted an increase in the number of vehicles on the capital's roads. The reason is the work from home scheme which is no longer applied during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There is an increase of 10 to 18 percent," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo to reporters, Tuesday, April 5.

The percentage increase in the number of vehicles is based on data from the past week.

However, regardless of the data, the number of vehicles has increased significantly. Because traffic jams are starting to happen everywhere.

The increase in the number of vehicles that lead to congestion is due to two things. First, because of the increase in community activity. This is because the government has lowered the level of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

Moreover, companies in Jakarta are no longer implementing the WFH scheme. So, people started to work as usual.

"Community activities have increased and many offices are full. There is no longer WFH," said Sambodo.

Although traffic jams have occurred everywhere, Sambodo said he has no plans to reduce or add odd-even locations. Until now, the implementation of the scheme is still at 13 points.

"There has been no discourse," said Sambodo.

For information, the odd-even scheme is implemented at 13 points in DKI Jakarta, namely Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MT Haryono, Jalan Panglima Polim, and Jalan Sisingamangaraja.

Then, Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Fatmawati, Jalan Tomang Raya, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan DI Panjaitan, and Jalan S Parman.

The odd-even scheme is enforced from Monday to Friday, 06.00-10.00 WIB and 16.00-21.00 WIB. While the odd-even rule is not enforced on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
