DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial Government has launched a whitening or relaxation policy for motor vehicle tax arrears on the Island of the Gods which will take effect on April 4.

"So we realize that people who have not paid taxes are not because of their low awareness, but because our economic situation has not yet fully recovered," said Regional Secretary of Bali Province Dewa Made Indra in Denpasar, Monday, April 4.

This tax whitening policy is contained in the Governor's Regulation Number 14 of 2022 concerning the Elimination of Administrative Sanctions in the Form of Interest and Fines for Motor Vehicle Taxes.

Based on data collected until February 2022, there were 449,249 vehicles that had not fulfilled their tax obligations with a total value of around Rp. 223 billion.

"With this tax relaxation policy, people who are late and have not paid taxes do not need to pay interest and fines, they are only required to pay taxes," he said in the Socialization of Governor Regulation No. 14 of 2022.

According to him, the Governor Regulation was made as a form of understanding that the Balinese economy has not yet fully recovered, so that people still feel a heavy burden and make paying taxes no longer a priority.

"At the end of 2021, the economic contraction still occurs in Bali, although not as big as in 2020, but our economy is still negative. I hope that by 2022 there will be movement so that the Balinese economy can grow and be positive again," said Dewa Indra.

In addition, the bureaucrat from Buleleng added that the purpose of this whitening was also to improve the Balinese vehicle database.

"Whether the vehicle is still there or not, it needs to be checked because it did not report or pay taxes. So this data collection is also important for us going forward," he said.

Dewa Indra also reminded the officers at each UPT Samsat to provide excellent and humane service to taxpayers.

"We have two tasks, namely to socialize this policy and provide the best service," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bali Provincial Revenue Agency I Made Santha said there had been a 26.36 percent decrease in tax payments in February 2022 compared to the same month in 2021.

He also realized that the economic factor was the most important aspect that influenced the low tax payments, especially in the automotive sector in Bali.

"So to ease the burden on the community, the Governor of Bali continues to issue pro-people policies, such as this bleaching which will start on April 4 to August 31, 2022," said Santha.

Previously, the Governor of Bali had issued a tax relaxation regulation in the form of exemption from the Transfer of Title Fee for Motorized Vehicles (BBNKB) II, by issuing Bali Governor Regulation Number 63 of 2021 which took effect from January 5 to June 3, 2022.
