Shophouse Selling Raincoats And Umbrellas In Tambora Caught Fire, Losses Reached IDR 1.2 Billion

JAKARTA - A two-story shophouse selling raincoats and umbrellas on Jalan Perniagaan Timur, Tambora, West Jakarta, caught fire. Losses are estimated at IDR 1.2 billion.

Head of West Jakarta Gulkarmat Operations Section, Sjukri, said that the incident was discovered after his party received reports from residents on Sunday, April 3, at 01.30 WIB.

In response, 13 fire engines were dispatched to the location to extinguish the fire.

"The team arrived at the field at 01.36 WIB, cooling down at 02.15 WIB. Operation finished at 07.30 WIB," said Sjukri.

The fire is thought to have originated from a short circuit in the electrical panel on the 1st floor of the shophouse. There are a lot of flammable materials on the floor so the fire spreads easily.

"It is suspected that there was an electrical short in the electrical panel on the 1st floor," he said.

Sjukri ensured that there were no casualties from the incident. "No fatalities. Losses reached Rp. 1.2 billion," he said.
