Two Weeks Of PSBB, Jakarta Traffic Declines By 21 Percent

JAKARTA - The implementation of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy in DKI Jakarta has been going on for two weeks. As a result, traffic flow in the capital city decreased by 21 percent.

Director of the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the decrease in traffic flow occurred on protocol roads. Although, the odd-even system has not been implemented.

"For example, the Sudirman-Thamrin on Monday, 7 September 2020 volume was 89,446, while Monday, September 14, 2020 the volume was 70,509. So there was a decrease in volume of 21.1 percent," said Kombes Sambodo to reporters, Tuesday, September 29.

The most prominent decrease in the number of vehicles was observed on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and MH Thamrin. The decrease in vehicle volume is due to the fact that many offices implement a work from home (WFH) system.

However, Sambodo emphasized that traffic personnel were still on alert. The goal is to regulate and monitor traffic flow.

"If there is no traffic jam either, but we will still deploy personnel," said Sambodo.

For information, the implementation of PSBB is regulated in DKI Governor Regulation Number 88 of 2020. In particular, restrictions in the transportation sector are mandated in Article 18.

In Article 18, during the implementation of the PSBB, all activities for the movement of people and / or goods are temporarily suspended, except for the fulfillment of basic needs; and activities that are allowed during the implementation of the PSBB.

Then, private passenger car users are required to wear a mask in the vehicle, and limit the carrying capacity of individual passenger cars to a maximum of 2 people per row of seats, except with passengers domiciled at the same address.

Meanwhile, online and base motorcycle taxi drivers are prohibited from congregating in one location. Ojeks will be subject to fines if they are found to be crowding.

Meanwhile, all public transportation, both land transportation, railways and water transportation are required to limit their passengers to 50 percent.
