PMI Supports Pertamax Rise And Values Wise Decisions

JAKARTA - The Coordinator of Millennial Indonesia (PMI) M Adhiya Muzakki assessed that the increase in the price of Pertamax fuel was a wise decision to be accepted by all levels of Indonesian society.

"We consider it a wise decision. What was originally intended to increase by 16,000 has decreased to 12,500 (rupiah)," said Adhiya in Jakarta, Friday, March 1.

According to him, PT Pertamina (Persero) has officially raised the price of Pertamax fuel oil (BBM) to IDR 12,500-13,000 per liter from the previous IDR 9,000-9,400 per liter. The increase takes effect April 1, 2022 at 00.00 local time.

Adhiya assessed that the policy regarding the increase in Pertamax was not without reason. Considering the time when world crude oil prices jumped dramatically to penetrate 100 US dollars per barrel. Moreover, Pertamax itself is a fuel oil that is not subsidized by the Government.

"Today, the price of world crude oil has skyrocketed. It is only natural that Pertamax as a non-subsidized fuel oil also goes up," he said as quoted by Antara.

On the other hand, Adhiya assessed that the people most affected by the increase in Pertamax were not small people, but people with middle to upper economic classes. According to him, this community will be directly affected.

"So, the people who are affected are the upper middle class. The lower classes are not too affected," he said.

Adhiya hopes that the increase in Pertamax, which takes effect in April, can reduce private vehicle users and switch to public transportation modes. According to him, it will be better to break down congestion and reduce air pollution in Indonesia.

"If viewed from the positive side, the increase in Pertamax will make people aware as well as lead people to switch to public transportation," he said.

Thus, said Adhiya, Indonesian people will indirectly shift from private vehicles to public transportation.

"We really appreciate Pertamina's efforts in adjusting the price of Pertamax in Indonesia," he said.
