In The Aftermath Of Terawan's Dismissal, The Government Opens The Discourse Of A Doctor's Practice Permit To Become A State Domain

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly plans to unify Law No. 29 of 2004 concerning Medical Practice and Law No. 20 of 2013 concerning Medical Education.

According to him, this step is so that there is a better arrangement regarding the medical system in Indonesia.

"Our suggestion is that after listening to input from many parties, we consider that it needs revision. The Medical Practice Law and the Medical Education Law will be 'reviewed' again for us to put them together so that later the arrangement is better," said Yasonna at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, March 31, as reported by Antara. .

He said this was related to the permanent dismissal of former Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto from the membership of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI).

He said that after IDI's decision regarding Terawan's doctor, it was better to give a doctor's license to practice being the state's domain than to be given to a professional organization.

According to him, it is better for professional organizations to carry out the functions of strengthening the quality of doctors in Indonesia.

"IDI is better at concentrating on strengthening and improving the quality of doctors because currently many people are seeking treatment in Singapore and Malaysia. We have spent trillions of rupiah for treatment abroad," he said.

Yasonna gave an example of a doctor from Indonesia who graduated from a university in Russia, then when he returned to Indonesia he actually worked in a pharmaceutical company because it was difficult to become a doctor in the country.

Yasonna considered that IDI should have looked at these various problems so that the Human Resources (HR) of Indonesian children studying abroad and domestically could be appointed as doctors.

"IDI should have looked at the problem more so that the human resources of Indonesian children who study abroad could be quickly appointed. There are no obstacles in the matter of the profession, so we will look into this issue in depth," he said.
