JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Maritime and Agricultural Food Security Service (KPKP), Suharini Eliawati, said that food prices in Jakarta will continue to increase as we enter the month of Ramadan until this year's Eid. In fact, ahead of Lebaran, the increase could reach around 40 percent.

"The increase in food prices ahead of Eid ranges from 1.39 percent to 40.35 percent," said Head of DKI DKPKP Suharini Eliawati in a statement, Thursday, March 31.

Eli revealed that the highest price increase was predicted for bulk cooking oil by 40.35 percent and premium quality cooking oil with an increase of more than 100 percent.

This is caused by the regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs which stipulates the HET of bulk cooking oil, and releases the price of premium quality cooking oil through a market mechanism.

"The reason for the high price of bulk cooking oil is due to the reduced supply of bulk cooking oil entering traditional markets. The supply, which usually comes in 4 times a week, is only once a week," said Eli.

Meanwhile, the lowest price increase was for large red chili commodities by 1.39 percent. Eli said, the prices of horticultural commodities such as chilies and onions this year's Eid are more affordable than last year's conditions because the supply this year is quite good and the rainy season does not occur at this time. cattle by 16.85 percent.

"The increase in beef prices is the cause of high beef prices because the Australian government prioritizes meeting domestic consumption needs, which soared after the COVID-19 pandemic was under control, high import costs and rising prices for cattle feed," he said.

Meanwhile, food needs before Ramadan increased by an average of 3.33 percent and ahead of Eid an average of 7.34 percent.

The highest increase in demand ahead of Eid is for chicken eggs and beef commodities by approximately 13 percent. Then, the lowest increase in demand before Eid is for rice and large chili commodities by approximately 4 percent.
