Difference Of Opinion With PDIP Regarding The Discourse On Postponing The Election, Cak Imin: I'm Waiting To Be Called By Mrs. Mega

JAKARTA - Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin admitted to a call from the General Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri to discuss the postponement of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

The two parties are known to have different views even though they are in a coalition supporting the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). PKB supports postponing the election, while PDIP takes the opposite stance.

"I'm waiting to be called by Mrs. Mega first," said Cak Imin to reporters quoted on Friday, March 25.

Even so, Cak Imin admitted that until now there is no schedule to meet the fifth former President of the Republic of Indonesia. He also mentioned that he had not directly submitted a proposal to postpone the 2024 election to President Jokowi.

According to him, the PKB will only submit a proposal to postpone the 2024 election to Jokowi after the proposal is discussed at the top political party level.

"No (there is no communication with Jokowi regarding the postponement of the 2024 election, ed). In fact, we have only proposed it to the public, parties, only to Pak Jokowi later," he said.

Cak Imin emphasized that President Jokowi had never opened a discussion about postponing the 2024 election even though he had met him. The second meeting took place at the opening of the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Nusa Dua, Bali last weekend.

"There are no comments. Haven't had a conversation yet," said Cak Imin.

It is known that the discourse on postponing the previous election was conveyed by Cak Imin on Wednesday, February 23. According to Cak Imin, postponing the election is important for the stability of economic recovery due to the pandemic.

Later, PAN also expressed its support for the proposal. Apart from the economy, the party created by Zulkifli Hasan is also considering the global political situation, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the increasing level of public satisfaction with the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin government.
