BOGOR - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Bogor, West Java, has made the Puncak area a "weapon" to restore the number of tourist visits which had fallen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have made various efforts to make the Puncak area a friendly, safe, comfortable and sustainable tourist area, hopefully it can be realized well," said Bogor Regent Ade Yasin as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 23.

According to him, before the pandemic, in 2019 the number of tourist visits in Bogor Regency reached 9.7 million visitors. Then dropped in 2020 to 5.1 million visitors.

However, the number has increased again even though it has not fully recovered, namely 6.4 million visitors in 2021.

Ade Yasin admitted that he was determined to restore the number of tourist visits because it made a significant contribution to regional original income (PAD), which was Rp. 282 billion or 7.61 percent of PAD in 2021, which was worth Rp. 3.7 trillion.

The tourism sector is expected to absorb a lot of labor and increase regional income, so that it can move the economy of the people of Bogor Regency.

"Bogor Regency is an area adjacent to the national capital and directly adjacent to 10 regencies/cities and two provinces surrounded by around 70 million populations, so the tourism potential of Puncak is very large, even the Puncak area is a favorite tourist destination for Jabodetabek residents," he said.

According to him, the Bogor Regency Government is also expanding the number of tourist villages through the Karsa Bogor Maju program. The number of tourist villages which originally had 25 villages in 2019, then increased to 35 tourist villages in 2020, and became 40 tourist villages in 2021.

In addition, the Bogor Regency Government also relies on the Sport and Tourism tagline to improve sports performance and increase the number of tourist visits by optimizing the potential of the sports and tourism sector.

"This program is carried out by developing sports facilities, adding sports facilities in public places, building a replica of the Sports Branch as a city identity, organizing tourism supporting events," said Ade Yasin.
