Many Rules Make You Inflexible!

JAKARTA - Many regulations made by the regional government make the central government inflexible. This was said by President Joko Widodo in front of regional heads who attended the National Government Coordination Meeting and Forkopimda 2019 at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), West Java, Wednesday, November 13 2019.

"I have ordered, do not make many perda (regional regulations), do not make lots of governor regulations, and guardians (mayor regulations)," said Jokowi.

Jokowi said that there were too many regional regulations, which disturbed the acceleration of development because they clashed with other regulations.

“Our country is not a regulatory country. Everything is arranged even we get caught alone. Be careful, stop it already, "he said.

He teased regional heads who frequently visit work or do comparative studies to make new regulations in their regions. The regional head who was present at the location laughed at Jokowi's statement.

To that end, Jokowi will propose an omnibus law which results in 70 revised laws.

Apart from the local government, Jokowi also insinuated the ministers in his cabinet who often made new ministerial regulations and slowed down government work.

"The minister wants to make one Permen (Ministerial Regulation) but 10 candies are lost," he said.

He said, in the United States under Donald Trump's era, if the ministry was going to make new regulations, it had to remove the two previous rules. Thus, existing regulations do not overlap and disturb the flexibility of government.
