JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD admitted that he always watched the film Pengkhianatan G30-S / PKI. However, he watched the film not because he wanted to know the history of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI), but rather to enjoy the film from an artistic and dramatic perspective.

He said, the film deserves to be enjoyed in terms of quality. Apart from an artistic perspective, the film's dramatization is indeed quite good and interesting.

Meanwhile, regarding the history of the PKI in Indonesia, the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court admitted that he did not need to learn from this film work. Because, when the G30-S / PKI incident occurred he was old enough to remember the incident.

"As for the history of the PKI, I already know because in 1965, I was 8 years old," he tweeted.

It is known that the polemic about the G30S-PKI film emerged after former TNI Commander Gatot Nurmantyo caused a public stir with his confession. He said that the removal of his position was carried out by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in December 2017 even though his retirement period began on April 1, 2018.

He suspected that this removal occurred because he persisted in instructing the TNI ranks to watch the G30S-PKI film.

In addition, the request for the screening of this film was also conveyed by the Coalition for Action to Save Indonesia (WE). In this open letter, the collector asked President Joko Widodo to take serious action against the emergence of symptoms of the rise of neo-communism and a new style of PKI.

As a reminder of the dark history, WE asked President Jokowi to order government agencies and public broadcasting institutions, especially state-owned public broadcasters, to screen the G30S / PKI films.
