HNW: Mahfud MD's Statement Reinforces The Government's Attitude To Hold Elections In 2024

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Hidayat Nur Wahid assessed that the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD's statement regarding the holding of the 2024 Simultaneous Election was appropriate.

According to the man who is familiarly called HNW, Mahfud's statement is the attitude that should be conveyed by the government since the discourse on postponing the election surfaced in the public sphere.

"Regarding the postponement of the election, the Government (Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD) has confirmed that it is preparing to hold the 2024 Simultaneous Election," said HNW in Jakarta, Monday, March 21.

The senior PKS politician said Mahfud's position was right in affirming the government's stance to ensure that the rules for implementing elections in the constitution run properly.

"Yes (exactly) because we don't live in the New Order (Orba) era with its Constitution. We are in the Reformation era with the Indonesian National Constitution which regulates elections every 5 years and the term of office of the President is limited," said HNW.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that the government is currently preparing for the 2024 General Election.

Mahfud also ensured that the government would work professionally in preparing the democratic party in 2024.

"So the government is still preparing the 2024 schedule for the presidential and vice presidential elections as well as the legislative and regional elections simultaneously. The affairs of the political parties (political parties) in the DPR (People's Representative Council) are welcome. We will work professionally according to our duties and functions,” said Mahfud, Sunday, March 20.
