As Head Of Delegation At The Inter-Parliamentary Union, Mrs. Maharani Voiced The Achievement Of Full Palestinian Independence

JAKARTA - The Indonesian delegation led by the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reiterated the Palestinian issue at the opening ceremony of the 144th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at BICC, Nusa Dua, Bali.

Puan, who served as chair of this year's IPU assembly, reminded thousands of foreign delegates from 115 countries that the world must not forget Palestine, which has not yet been fully independent.

"We must not forget to resolve conflicts in other parts of the world. This meeting can also press for the achievement of full Palestinian independence," said Puan Maharani during the opening ceremony, quoted by Antara, Sunday, March 20.

Indonesia has been quite active in asking the international community to support the full independence of Palestine in international forums, including at the annual IPU session.

The Indonesian delegation at last year's IPU session also voiced the issue of Palestine, although this effort has not yet received support from the majority of delegates.

Not only Palestine, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives also conveyed that the 144th Session of the IPU also encouraged a ceasefire and a resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

"This IPU assembly meeting pushes for an end to the war in Ukraine. Of course, we hope that the war will end soon and a ceasefire will be carried out," said Puan.

At the same time, he also hoped that tensions would quickly end in Myanmar.

"Regarding the situation in Myanmar, we encourage Myanmar to return to the path of democracy," he said.

Puan, in her speech, said that the 144th Session of the IPU was a momentum for parliaments in various countries to spread a culture of peace that always spreads the importance of tolerance, dialogue, and rejects violence.

Therefore, he considered the IPU Assembly to have an important task as a bridge for inter-parliamentary dialogue.

"The IPU assembly plays an important role in building inter-parliamentary dialogue. It is also useful for building bridges for countries with different views," said Puan Maharani at the opening ceremony.
