The epicenter of the earthquake was on land at a depth of 10 kilometers at coordinates 1.93 degrees south latitude and 133.32 degrees east longitude, about two kilometers southwest of Bintuni Bay.

According to the BMKG, the tremors caused by the earthquake were felt on a scale III to IV MMI in Bintuni Bay.

On the MMI III scale, vibrations are felt inside the house, it feels as if a truck is passing, and on the MMI IV scale the vibrations during the day are felt by many people inside the house and some people outside the house and can cause broken pottery and windows/ the door creaked.
