Following In The Footsteps Of The Grandfather Soekarno And His Mother Megawati, Puan Wants The Friendship With PBNU To Stay Connected

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, visits the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, Tuesday, March 15. Puan's presence is for gathering and working together.

Puan, who was accompanied by several PDIP politicians such as Ahmad Basarah, Utut Adianto, Said Abdullah and Rieke Diah Pitaloka, was immediately received by PBNU General Chair KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, PBNU Secretary General Saifullah Yusuf, and other PBNU leaders.

"Thank you for the warm gathering, we agreed to maintain a harmonious balance between all religious communities. Not only in Indonesia, but also internationally," said Puan after the meeting at the PBNU Office, Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta.

Puan added that she wanted to follow in the footsteps of Soekarno's grandfather and mother, Megawati Soekarnoputri. His family has close ties to NU figures. "God willing, it will be my duty to continue the relationship between Bung Karno's extended family and PBNU," said Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture added that the visit to PBNU was also a form of knitting cooperation in an effort to build the nation and state. All children of the nation must join hands to make Indonesia bigger.

"We came here apart from gathering, of course, we want to convey that we cannot build a nation and a country alone. Building the nation must be done in mutual cooperation," explained the PDIP politician.

Puan wants the history of PDIP's closeness with PBNU to be maintained because it has the same vision and mission in an effort to prosper the community. "NU together with PDIP, of course, have the same constituents, namely the underprivileged people. Therefore, we hope that in the future, what are the tasks of PDIP and NU, we can synergize together, we can do it concretely down to the bottom," he explained.

Puan also mentioned the current state of the COVID pandemic in Indonesia. All elements of the nation to unite to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We must do this commitment together to make Indonesia prosperous, and concrete in carrying out the things we do," explained the legislator for the Central Java V electoral district.
