DKI Firefighters Reminded To Educate Residents About Fire Prevention

JAKARTA - Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD reminded the DKI Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) to reduce the number of fires in Jakarta.

Even though the intensity of fires in Jakarta throughout 2021 has decreased by 30 percent from last year's 2020, the DKI Gulkarmat Service still needs to educate its citizens to prevent fires from occurring and to mitigate them.

Member of Commission A of the DKI DPRD, Gembong Warsono, said that the Gulkarmat Service as the main sector must have a grand design priority program to reduce the frequency of fires in the capital city.

"Even though the frequency of fires has decreased in the last two years, if you don't have a grand design, it won't be implemented. The Head of Service should have a grand design first because it's his job to plan it," Gembong was quoted as saying on the official website of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Tuesday, March 15. .

Continuing, Member of Commission A DPRD DKI Israyani explained that the grand design that needs to be made by the Gulkarmat Service also includes socialization efforts to the community in dealing with fires under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Current conditions do not allow for socialization, so there must be anticipation. Will the socialization be done online and the practice is rotated every RW or in other ways so that the frequency of fires can decrease every year, "said Israyani.

In response, the Head of the DKI Gulkarmat Service, Satriadi, admitted that it was indeed quite difficult to conduct fire handling training for the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, given the restrictions on gathering activities.

However, Satriadi said, the Gulkarmat Service had made a breakthrough by educating residents through loudspeakers in mosques or prayer rooms in fire-prone settlements.

"Hopefully this year the level of the pandemic will not rise again, so we can gather people again to hold training. We made educational breakthroughs during the pandemic era in 27,000 mosques and prayer rooms using loudspeakers," said Satriadi.

Furthermore, Satriadi stated that his party is currently conducting a study to make a master plan for a fire protection system which is expected to reduce the frequency of fires

The DKI Gulkarmat Agency is also making a master plan for a fire protection system to map all RWs in DKI Jakarta which are categorized as fire prone.

"In 2022, there is a budget of Rp600 million to map which RWs are prone to fires, so that we can evacuate more quickly," he added.
