Indonesia-UK Discuss Construction Of 2 HTS Satellites

The Indonesian government and the British government discussed the construction of two High-Throughput Satellite (HTS) satellites to maximize internet services for people who are undergoing digital transformation in Indonesia.

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government and the British government discussed the construction of two High-Throughput Satellite (HTS) satellites to maximize internet services for people who are undergoing digital transformation in Indonesia.

The meeting was held by the Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate during his working visit to the United Kingdom and discussions were held with the British Minister of Exports and Equity Mike Freer, CEO of UK Export Finance (UKEF) Louis Taylor, and Managing Director of Airbus Defense and Space Richard Franklin.

"The discussion discussed the production of twin HTS with a capacity of 2 times of 150 gbps (gigabytes per second) which is planned to be financed by UKEF," said Spokesman Dedy Permadi explaining the results of the discussion of the bilateral meeting between Indonesia and the UK in a press release quoted by Antara, Friday, March 11.

The financing to build the two HTS twin satellites will also be in accordance with the proposal of the Official Financing Offer and the Terms Sheet which has been presented by UKEF to the British Minister of Export and Equality before being presented to Airbus.

As for the results of the bilateral meeting, Indonesia received funding of £650 million or equivalent to Rp20 trillion.

For nine days from February 28 to March 9 2022, the Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate visited three European countries, namely Spain, France and England.

Minister Johnny represented the Government of Indonesia accompanied by the Director General of SDPPI Kominfo Ismail, President Director of the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Anang Latif, and Director of Infrastructure BAKTI Kominfo Bambang Noegroho.

The visit to Europe is an effort by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to open opportunities for support from various parties to become a strong provision to realize Indonesia as a formidable digital nation.
