JAKARTA - The Ministry of Home Affairs provides guidance to regions that are predicated as less innovative and cannot be assessed based on last year's regional innovation index (IID) measurement.

"(Innovation) must always be developed in the administration of local government, because innovation is not a business, but exists in every government affair," said Acting Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs Eko Prasetyanto in a statement in Jakarta Thursday.

Eko hopes that the coaching activities provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs can spur and motivate local governments to solve problems in the administration of local government in a creative, solutive, and innovative way.

This, he continued, is in order to improve public services that are faster, easier, smarter and better.

"This activity is expected to be able to encourage the direction of regional government administration and regional development in accordance with national development policies by strengthening innovation," he said.

Eko conveyed that by fostering innovation, it is hoped that regions will be able to optimize budgets, cut bureaucratic lines, and shorten public service times.

"The innovation philosophy is expected to be able to realize a smart city and smart region as the forerunner of a smart government in Indonesia," he said.

He also asked for the participation of regional heads, DPRD members, regional state civil apparatus (ASN), and community members to initiate innovations to encourage increased reform in regional government administration.

For information, the Ministry of Home Affairs held socialization and technical guidance on regional innovation for less innovative regions. The coaching will be carried out in stages from March 8 to April 14, 2022.

The activity is scheduled to be held in six cities, namely Surabaya, Medan, Jayapura, Ambon, Makassar, and Yogyakarta.
