TANJUNGPINANG - Governor of the Riau Islands (Kepri) Ansar Ahmad is optimistic that the presence of the F1 circuit in Lagoi, Bintan will be the main attraction, not only for Indonesia, but the world's eyes will also be on the land of Segantang Pepper.

"We will have more selling points, and it will automatically have an impact on the tourism sector and the regional economy," Ansar said in Tanjungpinang, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 7.

The governor explained that the construction of this prestigious and international racing circuit project had been studied by a team of consultants from England, Populous.

Even the management of the Lagoi tourist area, in this case PT. Bintan Cakrawala Resort (BRC), has also prepared an area of 75 to 100 hectares to realize the construction of this circuit.

There are at least two areas of land that have been prepared, namely adjacent to Lagoi Bay lake, and behind a long sand beach with panoramic views of the sea.

"The F1 circuit in Bintan will be equipped with stands and beautified with the natural beauty of Bintan, because it offers beautiful sea views. God willing, if everything goes smoothly, this circuit will become one of our icons," he said.

Ansar conveyed that the initial plan for the F1 circuit was to be built near the Nongsa Digital Park area, Batam.

However, Nongsa Digital Park's CEO, Mike Wiluan, did not approve of the construction, for fear that the sound of F1 racing could interfere with filming activities in the area.

"In the end, Bintan was chosen, so it wasn't because of any intervention or anything, the decision was like that," said Ansar.

Previously, his party had also held a limited meeting with the general chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo and a number of investors, Sunday (6/3) in Lagoi, Bintan.

The meeting discussed various preparations related to the groundbreaking plan for the construction of the F1 circuit.

"If there are no changes, the groundbreaking will be held on March 17, 2022 and will be attended by the Indonesian Minister of Tourism Sandiaga Uno," said Ansar.

Prior to the groundbreaking, Ansar continued, he and his team and investors from the Riau Islands would hold a final meeting in Jakarta with the ministry team.
