Considered Gray, PKS Asks Jokowi To Firmly Respond To Discourse On Postponing Elections

JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR RI from the PKS faction, Mardani Ali Sera, asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to be firm in responding to the proposed postponement of the 2024 General Election followed by the discourse of increasing the presidential term.

This is because the statement from the former governor of DKI Jakarta is considered gray. The reason is, Jokowi claims to be ready to obey the constitution, but on the other hand let the discourse of delaying the 2024 election continue.

"The president should have warned that wanting to postpone or extend the (election) is against the constitution," Mardani told reporters in Jakarta, Monday, March 7.

In addition, Mardani assessed that Jokowi's statement that the proposal of the general chairman of the coalition political parties was part of democracy was truly an anomaly. Because he said, the election title had clearly determined that the RI KPU would be held simultaneously on February 14, 2024.

"Unless there is an idea to amend the Constitution first," said Mardani.

Therefore, the chairman of the PKS DPP asked Jokowi to be firm in responding to the discourse on postponing the 2024 election. This discourse clearly contradicts the constitution.

"The president must be clear and firm in his attitude. Do not give another chance for interpretation," concluded Mardani.

Previously, President Jokowi had opened his voice about the discourse on postponing the 2024 election and extending the presidential term.

Reporting from Kompas, Jokowi said he would obey the constitution or the 1945 Constitution.

"We are not only obedient and submissive, but also obedient to the constitution," said Jokowi at the Bogor Palace, West Java on Friday, March 4, 2022.

President Jokowi stated that anyone could propose a postponement of the election and an extension of the presidential term, be it a minister or a political party.

This is because, according to him, this is part of freedom of expression in a country that upholds democracy.

"Anyone is allowed to propose a discourse on postponing the election and extending the term of office of the president, minister or political party, because this is democracy. You are free to have an opinion. However, when it is implemented, everything must be subject to and obey the constitution," he said.
