JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives continues to highlight the scarcity and rising price of cooking oil in Indonesia because there is no sign that it will end. Plus six cooking oil producers closed because they did not get a supply of CPO.

Member of Commission VII DPR Mulyanto asked the government, in this case the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, to speak out about the scarcity of national cooking oil. He considered that the Minister of Industry must act to regulate the cooking oil industry.

"Our Minister of Industry seems quiet about cooking oil. Even though people have been screaming for a long time," said Mulyanto to reporters, Monday, March 7.

The deputy chairman of the PKS faction in the DPR also urged the government to be present to ensure that the CPO DMO (domestic market obligation) of the national cooking oil industry flows well.

"The main problem is at this point. If production is safe, of course, slowly but surely distribution will also be safe," he explained.

If necessary, said Mulyanto, the government will form an agency to manage CPO DMO Migor to ensure the flow of CPO DMO is smooth and healthy. Including, it is necessary to accurately consider whether the DMO figure of 20 percent of the export quota is sufficient, after the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian war.

Mulyanto assessed that the government ministries as a team were not cohesive. According to him, the Trade Minister only 'make a lot of noise' and sell out promises about cooking oil.

"PKS urges the government as a complete team to coordinate intensively and comprehensively from upstream to downstream, so that the issue of migration scarcity is immediately resolved," he stressed.

"Don't stop at the downstream policy, while the upstream part is not addressed. This scarcity has passed one month, moreover we will soon enter the month of Ramadan," continued Mulyanto.
