JAKARTA - Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Cirebon Regency, West Java, Alex Suheriyawan said, 2,433 houses were flooded with a height of up to two meters.

"There are 2,433 houses owned by residents and dozens of public facilities that have been flooded," said Alex in Cirebon, Antara, Sunday, March 6.

Alex said the number of houses submerged by the flood was spread across several villages, four sub-districts in Cirebon Regency, namely Waled, Plered, Arjawinangun and Klangenan sub-districts.

According to him, the flood disaster occurred after heavy rains hit the area from afternoon to evening, Saturday, March 5. "The Ciberes, Cikenanga and Posong rivers overflow into residential areas," he said.

Alex said the water level that submerged the floods in several villages in the four sub-districts ranged from 30 centimeters to two meters.

Meanwhile, for residents affected by the flood, there were 3,364 families or 9,707 people, while 75 people fled to safer places.

"For conditions until Sunday morning, some have receded and some are still inundated by floods," he said.

Alex added that his party immediately dispatched a team to collect data and evacuate residents whose houses were flooded.
