PAMEKASAN - Floods that hit two districts on Madura Island, namely Pamekasan and Sampang due to heavy rains that have flushed the area since March 1, 2022, are now starting to gradually recede.

From Antara's observation in Pamekasan and Sampang, Thursday, March 3, there were only a few pools of water in the courtyards of residents' houses, while on public roads there were none.

The police have also opened access to the city route which was previously closed due to high flooding.

In Pamekasan, the previously closed traffic route from Sampang Regency via Jalan Trunojoyo Pamekasan was observed to have opened on Thursday night. Likewise, the traffic lane from the Pamekasan direction through the Sampang City monument has also been opened.

According to the Coordinator of the Rapid Response Team (TRC) of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of the Pamekasan Regency Government, Budi Cahyono, the flooding that inundated Pamekasan City began to recede since Thursday morning.

"Even if there is a puddle, it's only remnants in the residents' yards," he said.

He explained that currently there are still flooding in several houses in Sumedangan Village, Pademawu District.

The flooding that inundated Pamekasan City starting March 1, 2022 and until Thursday (3/3) morning in some areas was still ongoing, due to overflowing of the Kalisemajid River and Kalikloang River, after heavy rains accompanied by strong winds hit the area.

The flood inundated seven villages and 12 villages in four sub-districts, namely Pamekasan, Padewawu, Palengaan and Proppo sub-districts.

Each of the Villages Jungcangcang, Gladak Anyar, Patemon, Parteker, Barurambat Kota, Bugih Village and East Baruramat Village.

The affected villages include Laden, Jalmak, Betet, Palengaan Daja, Rombuh, Sumedangan, Lemper, Majungan, East Pademawu Village, West Pademawu, Samiran Village and Kodik Village.

"The total number of affected residents based on the results of the latest data collection is 16,986 people with the total number of people being evacuated as many as 450 people," said Budi.

Budi explained that although the flood had receded, the public kitchen to help supply food to the affected residents was still operating.

"As for public kitchens, as of tonight, they will continue to operate, because even though the floods have receded, residents cannot cook. Their kitchens are dirty and still need to be cleaned," he explained, explaining.

Meanwhile in Sampang Regency, the flood that hit residential areas in the city, on Thursday night was also observed to have receded, but the distribution of food aid was still recommended, because residents affected by the flood were also unable to cook.

The flood victims in the city also admitted that it was difficult to get clean water, because their water reservoir was dirty due to the flood.
